Why so much spam?
I noticed while browsing through my comments on this blog that my comment spam filter proudly proclaimed
Akismet has caught 31,707 spam for you since you first installed it.
I don’t even think it has been a full year since I first installed that! I am extremely happy to say that Akismet is doing it’s job but it still makes me wonder if there isn’t a better way. I find the same thing in my gmail inbox, massive amounts of spam in the filter. Will it get to a point where there are enough spam filters up that the ROI on spamming will be low enough for the so called “spammers” to stop? Which also makes me wonder if by putting telemarketer protection on your phone if you have eliminated the telemarketers getting to you or if they have just slowed down in the last few years. Overall I guess I am glad to have my protection, but wouldn’t it be nice to not have to live in a shielded area. Maybe when e-mail v2 rolls around things will be different….
