Rent (2005)

So we went and saw Rent recently at the theaters and it was quite a letdown. Let me start off by saying that I had never seen the play on broadway or otherwise. The only way that I had known of the story was through the music…..this ruined the music for me. For the first hour of the movie I was pretty happy with it, however as the story progressed it became much less about aids/poverty/urban living, and dove into the depths of homosexuality. Those who know me well know that I am not the kind of person that discriminates because of race, religion, sexual orientation, etc… HOWEVER…as with any straight male, I have a GAYDAR and it was out of control. The worst part probably being when the gay computer geek sang “1000’s kisses” to the crossdressing drummer boy. I digress; The movie also gets really depressing, not that I was expecting total happiness from a movie about people with aids/poverty……I think you get the picture….if you go see it do yourself a favor and walk out halfway through it only goes down hill.
